The Comhaltas 1916 Programme Of Events

Macalla 1916

An Echo of the Past... a Vision for the Future

Macalla 1916 is a centenary celebration of the 1916 Easter Rising which gained independence for Ireland. The newly composed suite of music by Michael Rooney, while reflecting on this seminal event in Irish history, will also place it in the context of Ireland’s story from Famine times to the present day. The new suite of music will be performed by the Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra.
Michael Rooney is widely reputed as one of the foremost traditional composers of our time. Originally from Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, Michael has composed seven major suites of music in the past fifteen years, including The Battle of the Books Suite, The Famine Suite, The Millennium Suite, and The De Cuellar Suite. His most recent piece was BORÓIMHE for the Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra in 2014.
The National Folk Orchestra comprises 60 of the finest young traditional and classical musicians from 20 different counties throughout Ireland and the UK.

Séard atá i Macalla 1916 ná comóradh céad bliain ar Éirí Amach na Cásca i 1916 mar ar ghnóthaigh Éire a neamhspleáchas. Déanann an sraith ceoil nua-chumtha ag Michael Rooney machnamh ar an eachtra seamhnach seo i stair na hÉireann maraon lena chur i gcomhthéacs scéal na tíre seo ó aimsir an Ghorta i leith. Seinnfidh an Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra
an sraith nua ceoil seo.
Tá Michael Rooney ainmnithe go forleathan ar cheann dos na cumadóirí ar cheol traidisiúnta is fearr amuigh. As Baile an Scotaigh i gCo. Mhuineacháin ó dhúchas dó, agus áirítear seacht mhór-shraitheanna ceoil leis le cúig bliana déag anuas, mar atá The Battle of the Books Suite, The Famine Suite, The Millennium Suite, agus The De Cueller Suite. B’é BORÓIMHE a chum sé don Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra i 2014, an ceann is deireanaí uaidh.
