Among the flagship events announced by Comhaltas is the performance of the late Dr. Bryan MacMahon’s historical pageant ‘Seachtar Fear - Seacht Lá’ at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016.  This magnificent spectacle chronicles the events of Easter 1916 as seen through the eyes of the seven signatories to the Proclamation.   Featuring a cast almost 400 strong, the pageant was first produced in Croke Park in 1966 for the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising.  It was subsequently produced in Cloughjordan and Cashel Co. Tipperary, Cloughjordan being the home place of the 1916 leader, Thomas McDonagh.

‘Seachtar Fear - Seacht Lá’ will form the centrepiece of the ceremonies marking the Official Opening of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann on Sunday, 14th August 2016.   The hallowed turf of Cusack Park, the County Grounds of Clare GAA, will play host to this singular event.

With an expected attendance of up to 400,000 people over the 9 days of the festival, both national and international media will be in Ennis so as to cover this representation of a seminal event in the history of the foundation of the State.

The 2015 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Senior Céilí Band Champions The Shandrum Céilí Band will perform at the Easter Monday State Reception in Dublin Castle. Comhaltas is also contributing to ‘The Road to the Rising’ sequel in Dublin on Easter Monday.
